My short breakfast was interrupted at 7:45 by a phone call from Paolo: Why wasn’t I at the car yet? So, after a grateful farewell to Angelo, I drove with the others back to Marciana Alta. MuseumMarcianaSilvestre showed me around his small but beautifully presented museum, covering a wide variety of finds from neolithic flints through Etruscan pottery, Roman glass and iron ware to later medieval articles. There are also relics from a Roman and a much more recent shipwreck and models of ancient ships. Unfortunately for me, the documentation was again only in Italian.RomanShip

Since the men had work to do, I took the 8:45 bus all the way to Portoferraio and left my heavy rucksack at the hotel I had booked for the night. So I enjoyed a last sunny day walking around the old town and the attractive port, struggling to get a working Wi-Fi connection.

Sunday started again early, with a 7:30 ferry to Piombino, train to Firenze, Milano, Zug, Affoltern am Albis, where Riitta met me and took me home, weary but grateful for a very successful week.
